You don’t have to be religious to establish a close relationship with God

It’s a good thing I have some smart folks to communicate with. I keep thinking there is no hope left in the world…Proven wrong yet again:

~My Dearest Friends~

God created you with an amazing brain that has a very high level of reasoning power which incorporates common sense. He expects all of us to use our brains. Learn from mistakes- they are bound to happen, so make them a positive experience.

Nobody is perfect! besides, life’s greatest lessons are learned through mistakes. Some mistakes are so horrific that you’ll never forget them (and therefore you’ll never make them again).

Learn how to live in the moment. Learn to better manage stress, feel less anxious, and become a happier person. Ruminating about the past and worrying about your future only creates more anxiety in your life.

Open your eyes and wake up to a new day. A day where you can start fresh and live in the moment and learn to laugh!! Do not let one day pass by again without living it up, without loving yourself, and without laughing out loud.

What are you going to lose? No more blues. No more bad attitude. No more feeling alone. No more self-criticism. Learn how to live again! Learn how to laugh more! Learn how to love yourself!

Open your heart to God. You don’t have to be a religious person to establish a close relationship with God. God is always available to listen to the prayers of the righteous ones.

God is your friend to. Get to know Him better, read the Bible. In order to grow closer to someone you need to get to know them. God is no exception. In fact, God wants you to get to know him by reading his inspired book, the Bible.

By reading the Bible you will learn how God feels about certain things. Knowing this will give you insight on what pleases God and what makes God unhappy with us.

We’ve Lost our Moral Compass

New Interview with Kirk Franklin: ”We’ve Lost our Moral Compass.”

http://elev8.com/elev8-original/orethawinston/kirk-franklinweve-lost-our-moral-compass/

This is an article that I read because it is a topic that I think about constantly these days. I see so many problems in this world because of our losing our moral compass. I listened to Kirk Franklin in this interview and I had a few problems with some of what he said and even more so with the way he was saying it in some instances.

So many celebrities try hard to not offend anyone. Although I have seen a lot of the Christian pastors so judgmental and screaming at and berating folks who don’t fall in line with either the pastor’s line of thinking or the Bible ( and I am stating these as two separate items because a lot of times the pastor is not in line with the Bible ) . What happens is that the people that we as Christians need to reach the most get alienated or turned off because they are or feel like they are being attacked and they don’t see or feel that they are “All that bad” in the first place. We Christians are SO judgmental!

Christianity has gotten a bad wrap and especially in the media over the last couple of decades and it is mainly because of Christians and NOT THE BIBLE!

The Bible may be hard to digest for us humans, but it is the main connection we have to God outside of our own spiritual, personal relationship with Him. And if you are not a Christian, you don’t have a personal relationship with God. If you do have a personal relationship with him, then you are a Christian. ( Sorry to drop that bomb on some of you,but if you are spiritually talking to someone and relating to someone that you believe to be God and don’t consider yourself a Christian then you are either mal de la cabeza or talking to someone else )

Anyway, back to this interview with Kirk Franklin…. He makes some great points and I like how he spoke about and tied in the past generations and the battles we fought ( jim crow, etc. ) But I always have a problem with referring to a group as “Generation X” or some other type of “hip” term.

Sort of like I really, really hate when Christians ( and I do this all the time also ) use the word “Awesome”. Just the thought is making me queasy right now.

Trying to “relate” is like parents trying to be friends with their kids. Sorry, but I take a hardline when it comes to this type of thing. If your kids are mad at you because they couldn’t do something that they felt they were entitled to, then you are probably doing a good job as a parent. Trust me, when they get out into the world and deal with realities of life they will thank you!

Now there are some who are going to try to argue and point out things, items, issues that I am clearly not talking about here. We all know the difference between being a good, loving parent who makes hard decisions for the benefit of their child. But denying your child things or mentally or physically hurting your child by denying them things and trying to pass it off as good parenting is not what I am talking about.

But telling your child “no” when they just want something that they don’t deserve or have not earned is the right thing to do. They need to understand that they need to work for what they get in the real world. When a child leaves their parent’s house and get a job, it will be a rude awakening when they get to a job and they find out that they actually have to work for what they get and that they can’t just do what they are told when they feel like it.

Kirk Franklin also made great comments about the generation not appreciating what they have or get.

And the part about Mothers going to the club with their daughters and letting the boyfriend spend the night because he has a good job and helps with the bills. It all is immoral and adds to the problems on a widespread level. No moral consequences.

He talks about how we have more, but seem to have less in the spiritual sense. We used to have each other when we had the struggles. But now we are so free that we have forgotten about who and what got us here. We take all of this for granted and start to feel that we are responsible for our own success, freedom and positions in life. Although to a point we are, but the opportunities that have been presented to us to allow for all of these things came from others before us who were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for others.

I was a little confused ( or i just don’t agree with ) him saying that we have lost our Moral compass on who God is and what God is. They seem to be two separate parts of the same problematic end results. Kids having kids and then wanting to get those kids out of the house and get back to the single life. They are not willing to sacrifice for anyone else let alone their own seed.

These are some serious topics and we have started to get away from the basics of life that made us understand the consequences of being self-involved, self-focused, narcissistic and not caring about anyone else.

Yeah this is more to think about and talk about. I know, but don’t let it slip away folks.

Superficial (a WiSH rambling digression)

I meant superficial not “surface people”. HA! Shows how unsmarticle I am.

In my previous post entitled “Surface People pt. I (a WiSH rambling digression)”, I
truly rambled. The approach I wanted to take with this blog was one where I
tried to capitalize on my lack of in-depth knowledge. Pretty stupid huh?

Well here is the thing. I am opinionated, but it is hard to write on anything
compellingly if you have very little knowledge about it. I really dislike a lot
of the things that are going on in society and when I see how the general
public can be so easily duped by the media, I wanted to speak on that without
being clouded with the in-depth information that people who take the time to
learn about a specific person or topic would be bogged down in.

It seemed… and still seems… to make some sort of sense to me. But I also think
I am rationalizing my laziness. I mean, look how long it is between each of my
posts. I hope to do better.

Now having said all of that, I plan to do a bit more writing and actual research to
accompany it. HA!

Why I am writing right now is because I had a discussion with a couple of friends
of mine about our government, all of the craziness going on in the world ( the
Japan crisis, Egypt, our President, etc.) and how things are perceived.

I still stand firmly by the superficial concept. I truly believe that we are overly
influenced (and I feel that I am understating this) by the media. We have a
tendency to watch just enough TV so that we can form an opinion which is
largely based on what others think and realities that are presented to us by
the collective media.

Take for instance political elections. Not only do we get a ton of info about
candidates from their campaign ads, we allow candidates to slander another
candidate to improve their own standing with us.

If a candidate was really worth a vote, they wouldn’t have to point out all of the
shortcomings of another candidate. They could simply talk about their own achievements.
Even better, talk about what they plan to do for us, the general public, and
explain how they will do things and the ramifications of their strategy.

But, alas, we are all lazy. Now some of you will be offended and want to say that
you work very hard for your family and that you are a good person and so on.
And I am not saying otherwise. I guess the term “lazy” is the
problem. Here is what I think I should say;

One big problem I see with our world (not just our American society) is how
overwhelmed we all are. So I don’t particularly blame the average citizen, BUT
we also need to take responsibility for our actions. Oops sorry… I neglected
to say who I blame.

Now I have thought and re-thought about this before I write it so I am somewhat
concerned about what might happen to me when I start this ball rolling, but so
what? Life is kinda hinky for us all right now anyway.

What the government does is make it really hard for us to survive without relying on
government assistance of some sort. We look for ways that the government can
make things easier or outright solve our problems. And there are SO MANY
REASONS why it seems okay; because of the way we might have been raised and our
personal set of Family values, our spiritual, or lack of spiritual, belief, to
name a few.

And now we are, sort of, forced to make decisions based on what our TV, Music,
Movies and the Enquirer tells us is going on around us.

I have three daughters who I have neglected and now I would love to make up for
mistakes I have made as a Father. So I spend time working and don’t really have
time to even speak to another human being outside of my work. So when I get
information I don’t always fact-check and I tend to base decisions on
soundbites and headlines and whatever CNN finds most significant at any given
moment. I really don’t have any idea what is going on in Japan besides there
were earthquakes, a tsunami and A LOT of radioactivity EVERYWHERE. I am
concerned about the citizens and want to send money and do what I can, but how
many of us are going to put this situation ahead of our day to day concerns and
responsibilities?

I don’t consider myself lazy, but I know that I could make more of an effort in places, but the truth is that this is virtually impossible.

So what happens is we make decisions that are good decisions for our families and
personal lives and feel guilty about not being able to do more in other places
that are suffering and end up letting our government handle that situation and
feel like we did our part as Americans.

Now I think I have given us all something to ponder. I will get back to you on this later today. I am spending a bit of time to formulate my thoughts and the discussion my friends and I had. more later… seriously….really…

SEO Basics: Creating keywords

By Peggy Tee ©

Creating good keyword phrases is the basic tenet of successful SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, which is an online marketing strategy specifically formulated to drive traffic to websites. Effective keyword selection is about knowing what your niche is, who your website is targeting, and what your potential audience is looking for.

Compile keywords

Having a large number of relevant and related keywords on your site can help increase keyword density, which in turn is good SEO practice. Brainstorm for specific keywords based on the major themes of your website. Use techniques such as stream-of-consciousness and discussion with friends or family to ferret out words, phrases or questions stemming from your themes.

Find your niche

Not all keywords are born equal. Some key words are broad, such as “flowers”, others more niche, such as “black orchids.” Finding your niche is key to creating SEO keyword phrases that stand above and beyond your competition. You can start with a few broad themes for keywords, such as “flowers”, “florist” or “delivery” but you should also include some niche keywords such as “same day” or “orchids” if that is what your website offers. If your site has knowledge, content or offers a service or product not offered by your competitors, be sure to press this competitive advantage. Be wary of using overly specific keywords; these may not be popular search phrases and will not bring traffic to your website.

Select popular keywords

Some phrases or words are searched more often. Use keyword analysis tools, available online, to rank your keywords and use those that are most popularly used in searches by users. Google Analytics offers this service. You can select keywords to populate your site and to increase your page ranking on search results.

Know your audience

Before you choose SEO keywords for your site, you need to assess who you are trying to reach out to. Is your website geared towards academic intellectuals, fashion followers, housewives looking for how-to guides or the casual web surfer? For example, a knowledge based website may use “scientific”, “explanation”, “temperature”, “air pressure” and “altitude” as keywords for a site exploring the science behind why water boils at different temperatures at different altitudes. In contrast, a more general, non science focused website may use “water”, “boiling point”, “height” and “altitude” as key words. In both cases, the keywords used are important for reaching out to the right kind of audience.

Surface People pt. I ( a WiSH rambling digression )

I realized after I initially said it, that this is not a very good title for this article as it sounds as if I am referring to people who live above the ground and that we might be battling some underground cave dwellers…hmm…

What I am writing about here is the general tendency of people to just take things on it’s surface value. Okay, maybe that is not accurate either, because the more I think about it…

I think that we accept so much of the information that we are fed out of the media that we are easily duped. We believe what we see and what we are told. And even worse we see celebrities and think that they are the norm and their lifestyles are ones that we rationalize into our own mistakes and bad choices.

A lot of this has to do with technology and our need for speed, convenience, instant gratification, etc. We  are flustered these days when something takes more than 5 minutes when a decade or three ago it took probably weeks or months to complete the exact same task.

Yeah, yeah, i know this has been said before, but I don’t think a lot of people really think about the reasons behind this and also what it will ultimately lead to. Coming from a Christian, this may seem to be a defeatist attitude. Oh well, I’m trying to help here.

The reasons why we want things faster and easier is not because we are some bunch of geniuses “figuring it all out”. Trust me, the old timers with a lot more experience than you or I can and will tell you the benefits of taking it slow, savoring, smelling the roses and taking a nap. Has “Where’s the dang fire, son?” ever been yelled at you and you thought “There ain’t no fire, I just gots thangs ta do!”?

Here are some of the problems that we face. And I firmly believe that problems start small and work their way up to a friggin’ hailstorm.

We get so much fast and quick today AND there are actual benefits to this, BUT  we actually just live our lives as if EVERYTHING should go that fast. The speed of light seems to be the goal in ALL things because we all have something else we need to be doing. Some of the reasons that we want to get through some things fast is so that we can get to spend more time doing the things we should savor, but we have forgotten what things we want to savor.

I have this theory that the reason why so many people are willing to hurt, rob, kidnap, murder, rape, pillage, etc. others is because we have become so detached and desensitized. Mainly because of the media hurled at us but  also because we have all of these kids having kids and babies having babies. They don’t know how to raise someone else because they aren’t finished being raised themselves. No one says “excuse me” or “yes sir” or “yes ma’am” anymore because these idiot kids who don’t have any respect for others are raising other idiots who will be twice as screwed up as their parents and people start to lose interaction with others because they won’t even look at or acknowledge the existance of the person they just walked in front of in the video store without so much as a “pardon me” or “sorry, I didn’t see you there” because they just don’t care anymore.

So they would just as soon shoot you for your tennis shoes or your iPod as sneeze on you and be ticked off because you were in the way of their snot. ( great scott I scare myself sometimes)

BTW…digression is one of my special talents.

Check this out…We see movies where large numbers of people are blown up or shot or in some way disposed of and we think that it doesn’t affect us to see it on the tv or big screen. So we “Adults” feel that little johnny who is 12 years old is old enough to handle this stuff  because we are too lazy to raise the child that is less than a decade and a half younger than his parent  ( I left the “s” off of that for a reason) and then wonder why junior pops a cap in you because he couldn’t play on his x-box…or however you spell that crap.

Ever pay attention to the amount of kids being molested, kidnapped or simply murdered lately? Ever notice how family members are taking each others lives and then their own? No one will face the truth because we don’t EVER want accountability. We try to blame others for our actions because we are ALL genius perfect people who have all the answers but fail to see the bombs getting closer to our own homes and in our own backyards.

I was watching CNN a number of years ago. The reporter was excitedly announcing the amazing technological marvel that was available. This was at least 5 years ago so this is scary for me. Anyways…She was talking about this refrigerator that when items in the box got low, like an 8th of a gallon of milk or some such depletion, the Fridge would order groceries to replenish itself. You never have to go to the grocery store again.

If that doesn’t scare the dickens out of you then you are probably next on either the outside or inside of the car trunk. ( for those in the cheap education seats that means you are either the kidnapper or the kidnap-pee ) Not sure if I spelled that right, but I actually took the recommendation of spell checker. I am going to be as dumb as a doorknob soon. keep those snide remarks to yourself.

I am sure that I am going to revise this article to clarify some of my thoughts and views on this, but I am glad to finally get some of this out of my system! Do with it what you will. I’m prayin’ for you AND me! Besides this is just part 1 so I can elaborate as the inspiration hits me!!

My thoughts on Michael Jackson

I wrote this article the day after Michael Jackson died. I lost my blog articles on my last server so I am getting this one back up for posterity’s sake!

I have been thinking and thinking over the last day and this is just so important for me to say after all of my thoughts and before they started to level off.

I have been thinking about the things that I feel are important in life and how I have seen how devastatingly painful the mistakes that are irreversible can be on a Family. And how those things, once done, can follow you around and paint your life and obscure anything of significant good or beauty you have done in your life and even in the lives of others.

I write the previous paragraph to let it be known how much I think about the damage that Michael Jackson may have done in the lives of the children and families of the children that he allegedly molested and emotionally devastated. If the allegations were true, you cannot overstate their importance.

I state these things first so that any thing positive I say about Michael Jackson will be tempered, as it should be.

The effect that Michael Jackson has had on my life, my children’s lives and my siblings, even my parent’s cannot be explained. I am incredibly hurt that he did not live long enough to redeem the damage that was done to those Children or his career. I had such high, idealistic hopes.

I felt about him like he was an extension of my Family in the sense that I wanted the best for him and his career. He was a Black (African-American) young man who was making major improvements in the lives of all Blacks and opening doors for all minorities.

And when he made missteps in his career and personal life, I always wanted to be on his side and prayed anything that hurt others weren’t true and anything that I thought was “silly” ( hyperbaric chamber, purchase of elephant man bones ) I simply thought folks should just “mind their own business”. Being protective again I guess.

I am a musician and composer…a person whose entire life and gifts are musical in most ways; how I dealt with and wooed girlfriends, how I bonded and related with my Children, how I have held hope of a greater existence and future for myself and friends and family surrounding me. That is how significant and important music is to me and why Michael Jackson and his death are so important and significant to me.

I grew up and was shaped in the mid to late 60’s and 70’s and 80’s and was influenced by music emotionally in ways beyond my comprehension. When the Jackson 5 became significant was when I even became significant to myself…just starting to become aware of the world outside of my Parents and Siblings and it was dominated by the J5 and Michael Jackson.

Gifts and entertainment choices were driven by a need to see these guys and to see them do well. Lyrics in their music, instrumentation and dance moves made me feel like doing something important in my life. These things made my goals and dreams formulate in my head and made them seem attainable.

I can remember each release of each album and what I was doing and what I did because of the current release by my favorite band “The Jackson 5”. Even when it seemed no one else was nearly as swept away by that particular album or song as I was.

Really important to me is not only what Michael Jackson has done in his lifetime, but how it affected me, what I was doing at that time and how I related to others because of it based on his music, dancing and compositions.

Now I choose to be guarded about letting my kids have an overnight stay with anyone else, even family, because of the things that were alleged of Michael (this is truly a sad distrust that his actions have created.)

I cling to the hope that he was truly too childlike to actually have done the things of which he was accused and also at the same time hope that he was just not emotionally savvy enough to understand that the things he did would be misconstrued because he didn’t know how it appeared to the rest of the world. That he was truly a man trapped in a child’s body making mistakes that take on a completely different appearance and significance coming from an adult.

I hope that we all see what we pushed him into with such a high profile entertainment career at such a young age and we contributed to his Peter Pan like development because we needed him to produce the entertainment that made us happy. We surrounded him with “Yes” men and women. People who warped his reality into one that made him feel he was doing things right. But after the glimmer and glammer and dance moves and singing and so forth lost it’s shine and appeal we looked at him as “strange” and not as eccentric while gifted and phenomenal and mesmerizing.

I am truly hurt that he didn’t get the chance to re-establish himself in the hearts and minds of all. I am hurt that he didn’t get a chance to somehow bring to light that the allegations were wrong and brought on by people who were trying to take advantage of his celebrity, kindness and naiveté. The naiveté which we all assumed that someone who was so successful and seemingly shrewd could not actually possess. But of course I may be completely wrong, but I don’t think we will ever know…maybe. But he is still like a brother to me ( in my small mind) because I have hoped and prayed as I still continue to, that like a Hollywood movie where the lead character is convincingly and adeptly setup to look guilty, that this will be the case with Michael and his career and personal life.

I hope that, now that he has gone, we can learn the right lessons from his mistakes and learn all that we can from his creative genius and musicality to make things in this world a good bit better than it is.

I am truly sorry for the hurt that his actions may have caused others when it came to his personal life, but I am so hurt by the fact that this important figure in my life, though a far cry behind my Mother, Father, Sister, Brothers, Wife and Children, has passed from us. The joy that he brought to me and obviously to others…I hope that it can redeem him and heal any hurt enough to mend hearts, minds and souls.

Why SEO Is Important for Your Website

You’ve heard all the hype about blogs and websites earning tons of cash, you’ve researched a bit and found out it could catapult you from obscurity to fame, and you’re not afraid of hard work. Finally, you try your luck and launch your own blog. So far, so good. It looks a bit empty, so you type-out your first post, critique it thoroughly, and put it up for the world to see. It will only be a matter of days before someone finds their way into your site. Weeks pass by, but all you get are a couple of visitors who don’t even bother to leave comments. You post a few more articles but with less enthusiasm this time. In the end, your commitment to continue falters because of the lack of traffic. It seems rather pointless to persist. Ultimately, you just give up.

If this sounds like you, don’t fret. Most beginners have good intentions when they start a blog or website. They seriously want to deliver quality information that can help a lot of people. The only problem is that they lack a basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is the backbone of internet success. It is the process of designing and developing your website in order to make it more appealing to search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and MSN and ensures that the website will be indexed and cataloged in the rankings. You want to shoot for the top ten in search engine rankings. If you rank anywhere outside the top ten, your chances of getting traffic greatly diminishes. Ranking outside the top thirty basically makes your website nonexistent. The next time you use a search engine, pay attention to the top ten websites that appear based on your search query. These are websites that have mastered SEO and, hopefully, have the best content available. Notice that you rarely need to go beyond the top ten to look for additional information. This is what SEO does for your website. It’s a cutthroat competition for the top ranking, and those who disregard SEO will certainly fail in online business and blogging.

Modern search engines’ ancestor is a program called Archie. In its infancy, the internet contained very limited hosted files and a manual search was still possible. Archie created a database out of all public directory listings and enabled users to look through the list until they found the file they were searching for. This basic formula is far removed from today’s search engines. Popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and MSN employ sophisticated algorithms that allow them to crawl, index, and search websites accurately. The technology has developed to a point where fly-by-night websites that attempt to profit from traffic but provide little value are quickly identified and weeded out, leaving the best sites available. With the millions of websites in existence today, search engines save us the trouble of having to look through all of them in order to find what we want. They are an indispensable tool. Going against the rules of search engines or thinking they are unnecessary to online success will certainly lead to failure.

Unfortunately, there is no way to accurately pinpoint the specific criteria that search engines look for in a website. These algorithms are the closely guarded secrets of their respective companies. The programs used are also dynamic, changing with the times and never remaining locked in a specific position. What was true in the past may no longer apply today. However, despite the fluid nature of search engines, there are basic aspects of a website that must be properly configured in order to have a fighting chance for the top ten. These include, but are not limited to, the site’s popularity, age, inbound and outbound links, content quality, and targeted keywords. A large number of books teach website owners how to properly organize these elements in order to maximize SEO. They are usually written by people who have studied search engine trends, experimented with numerous websites, and have largely figured out what works and what doesn’t in SEO.

There are also those who use their knowledge of SEO in shady ways. Commonly called “black hats” – a reference to early Western movies where outlaws wore dark-colored hats – these individuals have mastered SEO but lack the patience to improve website value and quality. They employ tactics that skyrocket them to the top ten even if their website is relatively new. Common methods used to manipulate search engines include keyword stuffing, hidden text, doorway pages, multiple unrelated links, and redirects. These methods are now the bane of search engines and are part of the reason why the algorithms used are constantly being upgraded.

All those involved in website building and online business exist on a spectrum. On one end are the newcomers who refuse to learn SEO and only focus on creating content, while on the other end are black hats who are keen on attracting traffic but disregard website quality. Neither group is effective. The naïve beginners will eventually lose steam and quit. They are like entertainers who hone their craft but never make it to the limelight. The black hats will occasionally profit in the short run, but once their underhanded tactics are discovered, their website will eventually be banned from the rankings. Those who comfortably find middle ground, working on SEO while still producing quality content, will be the ones to reap the rewards in the end.

Proper SEO management and strategies are your royal flush in the struggle for traffic. Too much, and it could destroy your reputation. Too little, and it won’t be effective. Just right, and it will lead to your victory.
